the solution to all the problems
There are so many mornings that I watch the news with one eye and see my sweet blonde hair bundle of energy with the other and wonder to myself "how on earth will I explain this to him"You know the news I'm talking about; the stories of house fires where families lose everything, the little boy who will grow up without a dad because of gun violence, the thousands of people who have lost their jobs, the tens of thousands of refugees desperate for safety, the legalization of harmful substances or the reminder that since 1988 there are no legal boundaries to abortion at any stage of pregnancy in Canada. To be honest, we have tried to removed this adult world and never watch the news when our children are present but no matter how hard I have tried, I cannot be removed from this adult world too.I am a Jesus follower and take it as my responsibility to make sure that everything I say represents what Jesus taught and what God commands. Sometimes I fail miserably, especially when my husband decides to gently place his clothes everywhere BUT the laundry basket. But I'm going to try againWe have an issue in our world today. There's so much happening and so many "problems" arising but what's the answer? More laws? Laws to counter those laws? New government to change the laws? What about the church? Do we speak up? Do we join the protesters on the streets? Do we fight for change and laws to be put in place. The answer to all these hot topics doesn't lie in the laws, the government, the party in power or the people voting. The answer to these topics lies in the heart. Our hearts. Our hearts have to be changed. Their hearts have to be changed. Everyone's heart has to be changed. We need a heart for people and people need a heart for God.We need to be willing to put our money where our mouth is. We need to be willing to literally take in the people who lost everything, the family who fled everything or the mom who can't see pass the next hour let alone the next 9 months. We need to be willing to open our doors, open our homes, and open our wallets, like really open our wallets to help point people towards truth.I know what your saying. It can't be that easy but friend, it is. It really is.Just follow me here for a second. Can you imagine if every person who says that they love Jesus truly started acting like Him and changed the heart of just one person who was being influenced by the enemy - can you imagine what that would look like? Don't you think that would be a bit more effective then a law that says you can or cannot participate in something? It is that easy and it is what Jesus did. He traveled around meeting people where they were at, the well, the fishing boat, the workplace, the streets, their homes and at their most desperate time of need. He was in the business of heart changing not law making.I'm not asking you to change your option on abortion or refugees or the legalization of marijuana. What I am asking you to do is think about how you can change the heart of just one person, a heart that is in a tough place, a heart that feels like there is no other solution.Want to change the world? Start with one heart - yours. Then go help another. Then another. And another.Jesus is really good at changing hearts - let's give Him the chance to do it.
